Do you know this couple?
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.
They met on the sets of the movie “The Rum Diary” in 2011. They started dating and got married in 2015. After one year in 2016, Amber Heard filed for divorce citing physical abuse by Depp. She claimed that he was a drug addict and used to beat her. This happened in 2016 when the #Metoo trend was picking up.
As expected Johnny Depp received a huge backlash from feminists baying for his blood on social media. I was disappointed as I am a huge Johnny Depp fan. Even though Depp denied the accusations, no one believed him. Even his ex-wife Vanessa Paradis defended him saying he would never hurt a woman.
There was an outcry when he was cast as Grindelwald in the “Fantastic Beasts” series. There were pleas by feminists all over the world to remove him. For ex. here is an article from a feminazi from my own country, India:
So, in short, Johnny Depp was “cancelled”.All Amber Heard had to do was to claim abuse and everyone believed her.
Now on March 12th, 2019 Johnny filed a lawsuit for defamation for Rs. 347 Crores. In this lawsuit, he has submitted proofs that show that the abuser was Amber Heard and not Johnny Depp. This suit allegedly contains 87 footages, 347 images and 17 witness testimonies from police officers that suggest that Amber heard is the abuser. It states that Amber Heard violently attacked him when he was late for her 30th birthday party. She has even been accused of chopping off the tip of his finger. The lawsuit even accuses Amber heard of staging the attacks on herself.
“It even contains audio proof of Amber Heard admitting she lied about the abuse. The lawsuit refers to an alleged incident in which Heard threw a bottle of vodka at Depp, resulting in an injury that required hand surgery. The suit also accuses Heard of punching Depp as he was in bed, kicking him on numerous occasions, and even staging her own attacks.”
So, in short, all Amber Heard had to do as a woman was to claim abuse and she was a brave hero. She wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post vilifying Johnny Depp. As a result of her false allegations against Mr. Depp, Ms. Heard became a darling of the #MeToo movement, was the first actress named a Human Rights Champion of the United Nations Human Rights Office, was appointed ambassador on women's rights at the American Civil Liberties Union, and was hired by L'Oreal Paris as its global spokesperson,
During these three years, he maintained his dignity even after receiving so much abuse. He was biding his time and collecting all the evidence. Because he is a man he had go to such extreme lengths to prove his innocence. The truth is this is what men are up against. A vengeful lie can destroy his life and reputation that he has worked so hard to secure.
But will Amber Heard receive even a fraction of abuse that Depp received from feminists? I don’t think so. Is this the gender equality we are striving for?
